A hospital group is issuing a final reminder to local people interested in getting involved in the future of healthcare.
University Hospitals Tees is encouraging local people who are dedicated to their healthcare services to stand and be part of their hospital’s council of governor before nominations close on Wednesday 15 October at 5pm.
North Tees and Hartlepool and South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trusts operate as a group model but are statutory entities in their own right, meaning each must elect governors to:
- help to represent the views of the general public and members in our communities
- help to select and appoint the chairman and non-executive directors
- attend council of governor meetings
- help to shape the future of healthcare services
- help support the board of directors on the development of services
- assist the development of each trust’s membership strategy
Professor Derek Bell OBE, chair for University Hospitals Tees, said: “Thank you to everyone who put forward their nomination to stand as council of governors. We are truly grateful for your support as we look forward to welcome passionate members who will help shape the delivery and future of our region’s healthcare.”
Governors need to be a member of the trust in the first instance to be elected and no previous experience is needed. NHS membership is easy and free to join and includes exclusive access to NHS discounts.
This year, there are 14 total vacancies at South Tees Hospitals and 8 vacancies at North Tees and Hartlepool to fill. These include public, patient and staff governor positions.
