Both North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust and South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust are appealing to local people to get involved in the future of health care and stand for their respective Council of Governors.
The trusts operate as a group model but are statutory entities in their own right, meaning each must elect governors to:
- reflect the interests of members and the general public
- help select and appoint the chairman and non-executive directors
- advise the board of directors on the development of services
- attend Council of Governors meetings
- assist the development of the trust’s membership strategy
Governors are elected from within each trust’s membership. NHS trust membership is free, easy to join and includes access to exclusive NHS discounts.
Professor Derek Bell OBE, group chair for North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust and South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “Nominations for both elections open on Friday 22 March and we’re hoping to see local people of all ages and from all walks of life stand for election.
We’re looking for community minded people who can spare a little time to help us plan and deliver the right healthcare for our region’s future.
“Being a governor is a rewarding experience. It’s standing for your community and making your voice heard.”
