Lying on your side, fold a towel and place it between your waist and your elbow (Fig A).
Slowly and smoothly lift the forearm toward the ceiling.
Keep elbow at a right angle and maintain contact with the towel (Fig B). Slowly control the arm back down to the start position.
To progress this exercise, place a small water bottle in your hand (Fig C).
The amount you put into the bottle will increase as you progress and your physiotherapist will guide you how much water to use.
