Occupational Therapy
Material: Thermoplastic.
Purpose: To provide rest and protection of joints and reduce pain. May also reduce risk of deformities.
Wearing instructions
To be worn mainly at night, but also at other times when resting, for example; in the evenings, particularly during a flare. Wear one per night and alternate between left and right if you have been given a pair.
Care of your splint
Wipe clean with lukewarm water or wipe with antibacterial wipes. Do not immerse in hot water or leave the splint in a warm place as it may lose its shape. Remove straps and wash in warm soapy water.
Precautions
Please check for:
- Redness, soreness or breakdown of skin.
- Increase in pain or discomfort or worsening of symptoms when wearing the splint.
- No improvement in condition after trying it as directed by your therapist for 2-3 weeks.
- Allergic reaction such as raised, itchy, red rash.
- Repair or alteration is necessary if the splint snaps, loses its shape or is no longer fitting comfortably.
In the event of any of the above. Discontinue wearing your splint(s) and contact your therapist on the details below.
