Occupational Therapy
Material: Fabric (nylon, polyester, lycra) with and without metal bar inserts.
Purpose: To support alignment of finger joints with or without wrist support in an active position to improve function during activity. Aims to reduce joint stiffness and provide pain relief.
Wearing instructions
To be worn only during the day as and when required during activities of daily living. Do not wear continuously. Remove regularly when resting or doing lighter activities.
Care of your splint
Remove metal bar inserts first if provided. Hand wash fabric in warm, soapy water and allow to dry. Do not tumble dry.
Please note: If you wear the splints whilst driving you must inform your insurer and the DVLA.
How do I keep my muscles strong?
If you have been given exercises for your fingers or wrists, do these each day as instructed by your therapist to reduce the risk of joint weakness and stiffness.
Precautions
Please check for:
- Redness, soreness or breakdown of skin
- Increase in pain or discomfort or worsening of symptoms
- No improvement in condition after wearing for different activities.
- Allergic reaction such as raised, itchy, red rash.
