Same day emergency care means that patients are assessed, diagnosed, treated and then sent home the same day with ongoing clinical follow-up as required.
Our acute clinic opening hours are 8am to 10pm and we are located opposite the radiology day unit, near the north reception, at The James Cook University Hospital.
Examples of patients who might be referred to same day emergency care include:
- Patients who require a brief period of observation prior to safe discharge
- Patients who require a specific test prior to safe discharge
- Patients who are waiting for a social or psychiatric assessment or intervention prior to discharge
