What is Safeguarding Week?
Partners from safeguarding adults boards, children’s safeguarding partnerships and community safety partnerships across North Yorkshire, the city of York, East Riding of Yorkshire and Hull have come together to raise awareness and engage the public and professionals to improve outcomes for service users.
Partners have developed an extensive programme of learning events, seminars and interactive sessions which all underpin this year’s theme – ‘safeguarding is everybody’s business’.
Spotting the signs
Many of us are finding it harder to pay for necessities such as food and heating and as the cost of living continues to rise we should be thinking about the impact this can have on our vulnerable families.
Pressures faced by families could expose people to increased risk of:
- Mental health issues
- Domestic abuse
- Drug and alcohol misuse
- Exploitation
- Poor health outcomes linked to cold and damp living conditions
- Poor diet/nutrition leading to obesity, malnutrition and diabetes
Signposting for families
The links below have been provided that can provide support and advice to families that may be impacted by the cost of living crisis.

What’s on?
Sessions developed by partner agencies will be held throughout the week and are available for members of the public to attend to introduce key topics and gain awareness.
