University Hospitals Tees has been applauded for its work in helping its international workforce thrive and grow in its first-ever Stay and Thrive conference.
The conference, which was led by the education and practice development team, was a vibrant and inspiring event dedicated to celebrating and supporting international staff working across University Hospitals Tees.
The day included a host of speakers including a welcome speech delivered by group chief nursing officer, Emma Nunez.
Her speech moved the audience as she explained how integrating diverse changes into the NHS can have a huge on the wellbeing of staff and patients.
International staff from diverse professions came together and delivered engaging sessions to celebrate the rich diversity across University Hospitals Tees.
Midwife Gifty Affram shared her journey into midwifery and professional lead for AHPs Ruth Mhlanga took the audience down memory lane to share her personal experiences.

A group of international nurses also came together to perform an Indian classical dance.
International nurse educator Jomer Beron said: “The event featured heartfelt stories from international colleagues, showcasing both their challenges and achievements, alongside cultural performances such as traditional dances that highlighted the rich diversity within our workforce.
“Senior leaders also offered guidance, affirming their commitment to inclusion, professional growth and support. After the conference, a professional panel consisting of leaders across University Hospitals Tees addressed the attendees’ questions, showcasing their commitment and support.
The conference served as a safe space for connection, recognition, and empowerment – ensuring our internationally educated staff not only stay, but truly thrive.”
