The Leyburn community nursing team has received a brand-new Dacia Duster 4x4, ensuring they can continue delivering high-quality care to patients in even the most remote areas whatever the weather.
Funded by South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, the addition of this robust and practical vehicle marks a significant step forward in improving patient care across the rural community.
Supporting isolated patients, whatever the weather
Maria Hubbuck, from the Leyburn community nursing team, said caring for patients in rural areas comes with its own set of challenges, particularly in winter when snow, heavy rain, and storms can make roads impassable.
Until now, the team has faced difficulties reaching certain homes, particularly in cases where roads were poorly maintained or located on steep hillsides.
"This vehicle will allow us to reach patients we previously struggled to access during severe weather. And those patients that live in our most rural areas,” she said.
“As winter progresses, the team is looking forward to putting the vehicle to the test in snowy conditions, confident that it will prove invaluable in delivering care to those most in need.”
A community-wide benefit
The vehicle will be available for use across Hambleton and Richmondshire, meaning multiple teams can benefit when conditions demand it.
