We are the specialist centre for cancer treatment for the Teesside region and surrounding areas covering a population of 1.1 million people.
Cancer services is the overarching team within South Tees Hospitals which provides diagnosis, care, treatment and support for patients with cancer diagnoses.
In terms of treatment we are able to offer some of the most advanced and cutting-edge methods of radiotherapy and chemotherapy delivered by our oncology unit which is recognised as a pioneering centre making around 100,000 patient contacts each year. We also provide specialised cancer surgery for a wide-range of cancer performing over 2,000 operations each year.
Our experienced and skilled professionals from many disciplines come together to work as multi-disciplinary teams (MDT) to ensure that our patients receive the best and most appropriate standard of care across the spectrum of cancer sites including:
- Upper gastrointestinal
- Head and neck
- Brain and central nervous system
In addition to front-end diagnosis and treatment we provide further supportive care services through our:
- Palliative care team
- Trinity Holistic Centre
- Psychological health services
- Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Centre
Our clinical trials unit runs many studies, including National Cancer Research Network trials.
