Very active research portfolio. The department has extensive links with the National Institute of Health Research and academic bodies like Durham and Teesside universities. Consultants and trainees act as chief investigators and principal investigators for various national and international trials.
Due to the nature of admissions and the wide range of surgical procedures performed, the ward has its own high dependency unit (HDU) staffed by specially trained nurses.
Ward telephone number: 01642 854524
As well as medical and nursing staff, a number of healthcare professionals are involved with our patients’ care including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dietitians and speech and language therapists.
Many of our consultant neurosurgeons work with other specialties including paediatrics (children), cranio-facial surgery and orthopaedics. The ward also has a neuro-oncology nurse specialist for patients with brain tumours.
