The pages within this section are written pieces provided by the families of some of our paediatric cochlear implant recipients, detailing their experience of their child having a cochlear implant.
It is important to remember that every child who is assessed for a cochlear implant has a different hearing history and set of circumstances. Outcomes with a cochlear implant are different for everyone and every family’s experience is different.
The written pieces provided in the page navigation menu to the left of the screen (or the bottom of the screen if you are using a mobile device) aim to give an idea of some of our recipient families’ experiences.
As part of every cochlear implant assessment one of our cochlear implant keyworkers will talk at length about what your specific expectations should be from a cochlear implant. They can also arrange for you to meet the family of an existing cochlear implant user face to face; they will try to select a family whose child has a similar hearing history to yours.
If your child already has a cochlear implant from the North East Cochlear Implant Programme and you would like to share your experience on this website we would love to hear from you. Please send it to: JCUH.NECIP@nhs.net
