Biography
Steven graduated from the University of York in 2009 with a BSc in Chemistry. He started a career within the NHS, working in medical laboratory roles at Darlington Memorial and James Cook University Hospitals in biochemistry, bacteriology and virology.
In 2017, Steven was appointed the pathology research and development facilitator at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The pathology research team expanded and during the COVID-19 pandemic supported clinical teams in new ways, retraining to help with recruitment, data entry and the delivery of research studies. Steven became one of the first non-clinical principal investigators in the Trust, overseeing FALCON-C19 and COG-UK. For his response during the pandemic and the development of a genome sequencing pathway for COVID-19 positive patients, Steven was given an NIHR Outstanding Contribution Award.
Since 2022, Steven has been on secondment at the NIHR LCRN as a project manager. During this time, he earned a distinction in both a MSc in management practices and a CMI apprenticeship, becoming a charted management fellow.
