At The James Cook University Hospital, we have several dedicated visitor car parks accessed via the Marton Road entrance at the south end of the site which are clearly signposted.
The car parks are regularly patrolled by security and parking attendants and monitored via CCTV. All facilities are well lit, and we are proud to state that we are consistently accredited to the Park Mark safer parking scheme. There are a number of designated disabled spaces and parent and child parking spaces on site.
We ask all users to park considerately and not to impede other users, emergency vehicles or pedestrian access.
We operate a camera-controlled, ticket less car parking management system in all visitor car parks at James Cook. Cameras will identify cars on entry and exit using automatic number plate recognition (ANPR). Your vehicle number plate will be registered by the system when you arrive.
Payment methods:

Supporting those in greatest need
To support the government’s commitment to make hospital car parking free for those in greatest need, we now provide free car parking for:
Disabled parking
Blue Badge holders may park in standard bays and designated disabled bays within car parks but may not park in:
- drop-off bays
- double yellow or red lines
- in any ambulance or parent – child bays
Blue Badge Scheme rules apply, and the badge should only be used when the holder is present either at point of arrival or departure.
If blue badge holders with good mobility can use standard bays this would support other blue badge holders e.g. those with wheelchairs or adapted vehicles to access designated disabled bays.
Blue badge holders should leave the time clock on display in the vehicle. Prior to leaving, please enter the car details into one of the payment kiosks and follow the on-screen instructions. When prompted, please present the bar code for scanning to authorise free parking.
Once registered, blue badge holders will qualify for three months free parking. Holders should renew their details prior to the expiry date to re-qualify or if travelling in a different vehicle.
Parking concessions
We have a number of parking concessions available to support our patients and visitors. To access these concessions please speak to the ward or department team. They will generate an application form which grants free parking for the respective period.
Applications will be processed via the Travel Link Desk, located adjacent to Costa Coffee at James Cook from 8.30am to 7pm, Monday to Friday. The security team will deal with the application outside of these hours.
Frequent outpatient attenders
Patients who attend James Cook or Friarage at least three times per month for a period of at least three consecutive months, will receive free car parking for the duration of their appointments. This also includes patients receiving cancer or renal treatment.
Parents of sick children staying overnight (including neonatal)
Parents or guardians who stay overnight with their inpatient child will be able to access free parking from 7.30pm to 8am..
Relatives of end of life patients
We acknowledge the distress that can coincide when loved ones are in their final moments and offer free parking in these situations.
Electric vehicle charging points
We have four electric vehicle charging points for visitors to use in our V3 car park. The cost of using this is 40p pkwh and users will have to download the Fusse app.
Where does your parking fee go?
The money raised from car parking charges supports the significant costs of running, maintaining and securing our hospitals car parks and meets costs in line with increased inflation.
Any additional funds raised are reinvested back into the trust for front line services.
