Remembrance Day 2026
To mark Remembrance Day on Wednesday 11 November, we will be hosting a series of events to remember those who have fallen and raise awareness of the support available for our armed forces community and their families including colleagues working across our University Hospitals Tees.
Flag raising ceremonies
Special flag raising ceremonies will be held from 9am to 9.30am on Monday 2 November at four main hospital sites:
- James Cook
- Friarage Hospital
- University Hospital of North Tees
- University Hospital of Hartlepool
Acts of remembrance
Acts of remembrance will be held on Wednesday 11 November from 10.30am to 11.30am to coincide with the national 2-minute silence in the:
- Armed forces garden at James Cook (behind the STRIVE)- refreshments available in the chapel after the service, kindly donated by the Volunteers Coffee Lounge.
- Chapel at the Friarage
- Chapel at University Hospital of North Tees – refreshments available in the chapel, kindly donated by the canteen at University Hospital of North Tees.
- Chapel at University Hospital of Hartlepool
A short sermon will be delivered by our chaplaincy teams before continuing to observe the two-minute silence at 11am. Wreaths will be laid at the ceremony each site on behalf of University Hospitals Tees.
Royal British Legion awareness stalls
Royal British Legion awareness stalls will be held across our hospital sites at:
- James Cook travel desk: Thursday 22nd October to Friday 6 November (weekdays)
- Friarage, cafe hub: Thursday 22nd October to Friday 6 November (weekdays)
- University Hospital of North Tees, barrows: Monday 2nd November until Wednesday 11 November, from 9.30 until 4pm (weekdays, excluding Wednesday 4 November)
Community remembrance events
Colleagues from University Hospitals Tees will attend remembrance events within each of the five local authority areas of Hartlepool, North Yorkshire, Middlesbrough, Stockton and Redcar and Cleveland.
A representative will lay a wreath on behalf of University Hospitals Tees to show respect for those who have fallen.

Remembrance Garden
In 2022 we built a remembrance garden which was opened during our Armistice day service by the Lord Lieutenant of North Yorkshire , Mrs Johanna Ropner.
