We also provide orthopaedic care to the children and young people of the region with our team of dedicated paediatric orthopaedic surgeons.
We are leaders in national and international multicentre research trials in almost every area of orthopaedic surgery and hope you will be happy to involved in that research with us.
Experts in major orthopaedic trauma
South Tees major trauma centre is the only unit in the country which has all of the specialists needed to treat multiply injured patients under one roof. This allows us to work closely with our colleagues in other specialties to give our patients the best outcomes possible from potentially life threatening and life changing injuries.
The orthopaedic team are trained to provide the best in trauma care and we have experts in upper and lower limb trauma, pelvic fractures, hand trauma and limb reconstruction. We regularly work with our plastic surgery colleagues to provide gold standard care for open fractures.
We are a national leader in the care of patients who sustain fragility fractures, hip fractures for example. We are the only unit in the North East to provide a dedicated fragility fracture ward to help our patients recover to their maximum potential.
We are also very honoured to be one of the few units in the country chosen to provide care to patients who need their hip or knee replacement revising.
Other specialist areas
Our orthopaedic team provides treatment for all aspects of bone and joint conditions as well as simple and complex soft tissue and nerve problems.
We also provide a dedicated bone and joint infection service that is one of only a few in the country. This delivers multidisciplinary team management of complex bone and joint infection cases. This approach is considered essential to deliver the best possible outcomes for our patients.
We work closely with our anaesthetic colleagues to offer patients the option of having a regional anaesthesia (numbing of the limb rather than going off to sleep for your operation) for many of our surgeries which means a quicker return home and a shortly length of hospital stay following surgery.
