Following implantation and subsequent switch on, both you and your child will receive lots of help and support from an array of different people in order for your child to get the most from their cochlear implant.

When your child is at nursery or school they will most likely be provided with an FM system or radio aid.

Often the biggest challenge within the first week is asking your child to wear their processors and keep magnets/coils attached to their head.

Between the ages of 11 and 18, your child will be reviewed in what is known as the ‘Transition Service’.

Following the assessment process the cochlear implant team will meet to decide if your child would benefit from a cochlear implant. You will be told about the decision and if we are going to offer an implant you will be given a date for surgery and an appointment to see the surgeon and sign the consent form.
