Why did you want to be a nurse?
Caring for a family member at a young age, led to a thirst in nursing and medicine. This thirst progressed allowing for successful completion in an advanced diploma in nursing and nursing degree.
Day-to-day tasks?
The IPC lead nurse is primarily responsible for effective leadership and communication within the IPC team, driving the Healthcare Associated Infection Annual Plan (HCAI) forward to prevent and/or control infection.
Effective decision making, based upon trust policies and Department of Health and UK Heath Security Agency guidelines to support in providing a specialist advisory service to healthcare staff, patients, visitors and non-trust staff working within the organisation.
Educational lead in the delivery of a 3-day Infection Prevention and Control Educational Course.
Most fulfilling part of the job?
Ensuring for patient safety in the prevention and control of infection/s, recognising the importance of risk assessment and ensuring appropriate mitigation/s have been discussed and are placed to manage risks.
Development of a team of knowledgeable infection prevention and control nurses, through professional development and appropriate training.
Lead for education within the infection prevention and control team.
