Why did you want to be a midwife?
I wanted to be able to care for birthing people at all stages of their pregnancy, labour and postnatal period. Helping to reduce health inequalities in the local area through education and service improvement is something I am passionate about in my role.
Day-to-day tasks?
Every day differs when working on maternity triage as it functions similarly to A&E. My day to day tasks include:
- Rapid triage assessment of women with pregnancy/postnatal concerns to decide urgency of care.
- Answering the triage line to assist with any pregnancy/postnatal concerns.
- Caring for women with complex pregnancy/postnatal concerns and ensuring they are admitted to the correct area of the maternity unit if necessary.
Most fulfilling part of the job?
The most fulfilling part of the job is to see the difference that we can make to people’s pregnancy journey, providing education and reassurance when it is needed and developing a good relationship with the families in our care. It is an honour to play even a small part in anyone’s pregnancy journey and I would never want to do anything else.
